Programs  Street Outreach Services DRUG ARM Queensland operates four Outreach Services. Street Outreach Services (SOS) operate in: Brisbane, Bundaberg and Toowoomba, mostly on Friday and Saturday nights. MOSHPIT is a specialised health outreach based in Brisbane that operates during the day. Treatment programs take varying forms. The CAFSS program, offering case managed support, operates in Brisbane and Ipswich. In the South West region, support is provided through the FADS, CASPA, FSP and GAADSS programs. Goondiwindi also has a youth program called Getting It Together. The AOD (Alcohol and Other Drugs) Program offers services in Warwick, Brisbane North, Gold Coast, Southern Downs and Mackay/Moranbah. QIDDI, Queensland Illicit Drugs Diversion Initiative, operates in Brisbane, Ipswich, Goondiwindi, Inglewood, Sunshine Coast and Mackay. The program provides a unique mobile outreach and health service to substance affected people including young people at risk of homelessness and disadvantaged groups in inner city Brisbane. What services do we offer in it? The MOSHPIT van offers a fully equipped on board health centre, providing dressings for minor wounds, checkups, referrals to other agencies and support in gaining housing if required. Who are its clients? What are their needs? Clients of MOSHPIT include youth at risk of homelessness and other disadvantaged groups Who works in the program? The program is run by full time coordinators and staffed by a range of professionals including Centrelink officers, nurses and counsellors and volunteers. Which regions operate the program? The program runs in Brisbane city. Funded By? MOSHPIT is a partnership funded through a number of generous sources including Centrelink, St Lukes Nursing Service, QML, Mater Mothers, SQWISI and Biala Sexual health, and DRUG ARM. What support does this program need? MOSHPIT needs continued funding to operate its service, donations sponsorship and volunteer labour are all appreciated, and greatly help others in the community. The Street Outreach Service reaches out to provide support, information, referrals and transport to individuals or groups of young people on the streets, who are at risk of becoming homeless and/or dependant on alcohol and other illicit drugs. Dedicated volunteers sort, price, maintain and sell goods at the shop, and are always on the lookout for donations of good quality clothing. Schoolies Week Over 10 days of the Gold Coast Schoolies Festival, teams of Outreach volunteers operate one of the Recharge Zones, providing support to the estimated 30-40,000 young people at the Festival. Additionally, CARE conducts research examining drug- and risk-taking behaviours of young people at the Festival; this research is also heavily supported by volunteers. Our Recharge Zone collaborates with volunteers from Rosies, Scripture Union, Volunteers In Policing, Hotel Chaplaincy and Gold Coast Schoolies Support Team, as well as working closely with State Emergency Services (SES), ambulance (QAS), police and event organisers. The Zone provides drinks, information and physical support, along with assessment, general support and reconnection. Consistent with our research, alcohol is the drug of choice for Gold Coast Schoolies. Workers from DRUG ARM and volunteers enjoy the opportunity to work with team members from other areas, and the challenge of working with such large scale celebrations. Schoolies celebrations show no sign of diminishing in size, but the important support provided by DRUG ARM is widely acknowledged as having a significant impact on the safety of young people celebrating a landmark in their lives. Treatment Programs AOD: Alcohol and Other Drug Program What does the program do? AOD offers intensive case management to those who require ongoing support and additional referrals to overcome or manage their addiction to alcohol, tobacco and other drug issues. What services do we offer in it? AOD provides assessment and support, brief treatment interventions and appropriate referrals. Who are its clients? What are their needs? The AOD program provides information and support for individuals and families facing difficulties with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Treatment options and plans include goal setting, budgeting, anger management, self-esteem, motivation maintenance and relapse prevention. Who works in the program? Trained drug and alcohol workers. Which regions operate the program? The AOD program teams are based in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Moranbah/Mackay, Warwick and Stanthorpe. Funded By? The AOD program is funded by Queensland Health through the Chronic Diseases grants. What support does this program need? The AOD Program is always looking to raise funds to help support the longevity of the program, to enable visits to clients homes, fund resources and information kits for those that request them and for facilities for volunteers. CAFSS: Community And Family Support Service (previously operating as HART) What does the program do? CAFSS works with individuals and families with drug and alcohol issues. What services do we offer in it? CAFSS provides assessment and support, brief treatment interventions and appropriate referrals. Who are its clients? What are their needs? Clients include persons with drug and alcohol problems and their families and friends. CAFSS also answers general questions relating to drug use and effects, and can offer referrals to other community and government services. Who works in the program? Trained counsellors and drug and alcohol workers. Which regions operate the program? The CAFSS program teams are based in Brisbane and Ipswich. Funded By? The Queensland CAFSS program is funded by DRUG ARM fundraising, donations and sponsorships, and the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing through the National Illicit Drug Strategy Non Government Organisation Treatment Grants Program. What support does this program need? Volunteers are a vital element in this service. The CAFSS Program is always looking to raise funds to help support its program, to enable visits to clients homes, fund resources and information kits for those that request them and for facilities for the volunteers. CASPA: The Community And Schools Promoting Achievement What does the program do? is an after school program which works in conjunction with the Toowoomba Family Support Program offering emotional and educational support to children who are having difficulty coping in the classroom due to family and other outside influences. What services do we offer in it? Counselling and emotional support, one on one help with educational and emotional needs support Who are its clients? What are their needs? The clients are children and youth in the Toowoomba area that are not coping with the educational requirements at school often due to emotional trauma Who works in the program? The program is run by counsellors and project officers who have had training to help children and youth cope with their emotional problems Which regions operate the program? The program is currently being run in Toowoomba What support does this program need? Funding support, for staff and client resources, office and administrative costs. Volunteers are always welcome to apply to become a DRUG ARM volunteer and for DRUG ARM training. FSP - Parent and Family Support Program What does the program do? The Parent and Family Support Program offers support and assistance to families where a family member has a relationship, family or parenting issue. What services do we offer in it? The main focus of the program is to promote positive and effective parenting through increasing parent’s knowledge, skills, self confidence and self esteem. Who are its clients? What are their needs? The clients of the FSP program are families including children. Who works in the program? The program is run by fully qualified staff and trained volunteers. Which regions operate the program? This program operates in Toowoomba and is funded by the Department of Communities. What support does this program need? FSP is in need of additional funding and resources to help support the families of those with an addiction problem. FSP is also in need of volunteers who can assist either during the day or in the evening. GAADSS: Goondiwindi Alcohol and Drug Support Services What does the program do? Goondiwindi Alcohol and Drug Support Services (GAADSS) operates in Goondiwindi, Boggabilla and Toomelah and provides a rural and remote intervention program for young people and their family experiencing harm through the use of alcohol and other licit and poly-drug use and will include comprehensive assessment, case management and treatment options. What services do we offer in it? Intervention program for young people and their family experiencing harm through the use of alcohol and other licit and poly-drug use and will include comprehensive assessment, case management and treatment options. Who are its clients? What are their needs? Young people and their family who are experiencing harm. Who works in the program? The program is run by suitably qualified staff and trained volunteers. Which regions operate the program? GAADSS operates in Goondiwindi, Boggabilla and the Toomelah regions. Funded by? Continued funding will be from Queensland Health with additional support from both Waggambah Shire Council and Goondiwindi Town Council. What support does this program need? Funding for support workers, office equipment, and all other costs of running the program. Volunteers are always needed to provide support. GIT: Getting It Together GIT is an intensive case management program for indigenous young people in Bogabilla and Toomelah. QIDDI: Queensland Illicit Drugs Diversion Initiative What does the program do? The QIDDI Court Diversion and Police Diversion Program offers assessment and early intervention strategies for people aged 12 and over who face court appearances due to drug issues. What services do we offer in it? A two and a half hour assessment and education session with a professional drug and alcohol clinician, aiming at assessing current and past substance misuse, identifying areas of concern and providing education and information on the harms and risks of illicit drugs misuse. Who are its clients? What are their needs? Clients of the Court and Police Diversion program are people charged with a minor drug offence/s as an alternative to being fined or convicted. This includes less than 50g cannabis, and less than 1g amphetamine, heroin, ecstacy or other. Who works in the program? The program is run by trained staff who can offer a range of treatment options and the option to continue follow up treatments with DRUG ARM. Which regions operate the program? The QIDDI Court and Police Diversion Program operates from DRUG ARM offices in Brisbane, Ipswich, Mackay, Nambour, Noosa, Goondiwindi, and Inglewood. Funded By? The DRUG ARM QIDDI Program is funded through a joint initiative by the Commonwealth and Queensland Health. QMERIT Aftercare: Queensland Magistrates Early Referral Into Treatment The Queensland Magistrates Early Referral Into Treatment (QMERIT) Aftercare Program is a new initiative funded by Queensland Health. Clients enter the program through the Magistrates’ Court and then have the option to enter the DRUG ARM Australasia QMERIT Aftercare program. The program is a flexible, client centred, outreach (or office based) program that focuses on the social, health and psychological barriers for clients to re-integrate back into the community and encourages them to address their offending behaviour prior to sentencing. Clients will have intensive case management for a 12 week period (for up to 6 hours per week face to face counselling and support work with a case worker) and will have opportunities to participate in group work, brief interventions, education and information sessions and socialisation. The case management by Case Workers will provide access to suitable services, advocacy for housing and tenancy issues, assistance in accessing medical services and may be required to drive clients to appointments.
