Prevention ProgramsCARE supports prevention programs, which address the harms of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs at a community level, rather than just for individuals. These programs operate in Brisbane (North and South) and on the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast. Prevention Officers coordinate with local Liquor Accords to reduce alcohol-related harm around licensed premises and in entertainment precincts, working closely with licensees, Police, Liquor Licensing, local Council, Queensland Health and others who are concerned. Programs are based on local research to ensure that they meet local needs. Local Tobacco Action Groups encourage the adoption of measures to ensure the community stays safe from the harms associated with smoking. They also work to increase community awareness of these issues and ensure that treatment and support programs are available to help people quit. ![]() One such program is Safer Venues; this is an awards scheme which encourages licensees to adopt and maintain safety standards in their venues. Patron safety is a major concern, and Safer Venues recognises the work that licensees do to maintain it.
